Misha Feigin

Misha Feigin was born and rose in Moscow and is known as one of Russia's premiere guitarists. When he emigrated to the USA in 1990, he left an established position in the Moscow arts scene highlighted by his 4 albums on the Melodia label, features on major radio and television shows, and national and international tours. He began recording free improvised music in 1986 in Moscow with Auction's Dimitry Matkovsky . He also performed with the Russian pop-folk star, Janna Bichevskaya .
Since moving to the USA in 1990 in 1990, Misha has been active in both the folk and improvised scenes. He also featured on the American Public Radio Program "Mountain Stage" at the WOMAD World Music Festival in Toronto and at the Winnipeg International Folk Festival. He has opened for Leo Kottke and shared his stage with Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Merry.
Misha performed free improvised music as a solo act at the Birmingham Improv Festival at the Birmingham Art Association. He gave a solo concert in New York at Knitting Factory, there he also played with Elliot Sharp, Other duet performances have included LaDonna Smith , Davey Williams , Craig Hultgren , as well as a US tour with fellow Moscow saxophonist Serguei Letov .
In April of 1997 Misha toured England and Scotland where he played in duets with John Russell and Mick Beck .
Currently, Misha is a member of UT GRET , performing pan-idiomatic improvisational music in rock and jazz venues. UT GRET's CD on ZNR Records, "Time of the Grets", features guest appearances by Henry Kaiser , Eugene Chadborne , and Greg Goodman .
Russian and English are heard throughout Misha's dynamic performances, which incorporate original poetry and spontaneous storytelling. He plays classical and acoustic guitars, balalaika, keyboards, harmonica, and percussion. Misha's music is a blend of various ethnic and idioms and musical styles, His three US releases are "The Only One Road", "The Meeting", with original folk music in Russian and English, and "Spontaneous Folks' Music", with free improvised songs.
