Lesya Tyshkovska

Lesya Tyshkovska was born in 1969 in Kiev, Ukraine. In 1992 she graduated from the Philological Faculty of Kiev State University with M. A. in philology (Russian language and literature). In 1995 she finished the post-graduate courses at the above-mentioned university. Now she is preparing to defend her Ph.D. dissertation on mytho-poetry of Marina Tsvetaeva.

Her first book of poetry ("Dreams on the coast of life") was published in 1993. Two more books ("To those who remained here" and "April 6") - in 1994 and 1996" correspondingly. The latter also contains some prose works. Her lyrics were published in a number of newspapers and magazines in Ukraine, Russia and Belorussia, such as "Kievsky Universitet" (Kiev University), "Molodoy Geniy" (Young Genius), "Gumanitarnyi Fond" (Humanitarian Fund), "Literatura i Iskusstvo" (Literature&Arts), "Samvatas", "Collegium", "Litoboz", "Article".

She is also famous for her songs which she writes and sings herself. Her first concerts took place in 1992-193 at the House of Composers and Writers' Club in Kiev. She also performed at the Moscow Museum of Literature and in Minsk. In the latest performances she combined the singing with recital.

In addition to her solo performances she participated in many musical and lyrical parties organized by some foundations and institutions where she performed in a manner of so called "chamber variety." She sang and recited accompanying herself on piano or guitar. She was a participant of a number of festivals and art gatherings, such as Smolensk Festival of Modern Arts, Moscow Festival of Young Writers "Babylon," Moscow festival of Vers Libres. In 1991 during the 1st Congress of Russian Vers Libres Poets she joined the Vers Libres Union.

Since 1994 she has been playing the mono performances acting as an author, composer and actress. She has already prepared four performances of this kind. The latest two of them ("Sources of Sight" and "Rehearsal of Life") combine the elements of recital, bard singing and body-art. In 1997 she participated with in the Ukrainian-German cultural project Kiev-Trier with her mono performance. She was a guest of may Radio and TV shows and broadcasting in both Ukraine and Russia.

She has also interviewed newspapers and magazines' reports from "Financial Ukraine", "Graffiti", "Natali", "Kievsky Vestnik", "Belarusskaya Kultura". Besides, she used to be a model and tried to paint - one could found her drawings in the second books of lyrics.
